Claptrap and Dr Ned's zombie one are some fun, and can be done in any order. They are standalone. The underdome has the bank for excess loot, so go there any time.

Much like the Pearlescent weapons from Borderlands 1, your odds of getting a legendary just by opening chests, killing enemies is extremely slight. Remember the runs in the Knoxx Armory (sometimes you'd make that run and see 1 legendary).
